Forestry Mulching in Collegedale, TN

Serving Collegedale · Hamilton County

Land Services for Collegedale Homes, Yards and Acreage

Forestry mulching is how we open up overgrown ground in Collegedale. A drum mulcher mounted on our mini skid steer chews standing brush and saplings down to chips. Those chips settle on the soil as a cover layer. One pass turns a thicket back into ground you can use.

Collegedale is a fast-growing city in eastern Hamilton County, about 15 minutes east of downtown Chattanooga along I-75. Where a lot has gone to woods, land clearing at residential scale opens it back up. That might be a grown-up side yard or a few acres out back.

Three Crosses Land Services is based just north of Chattanooga, and every part of Collegedale is within our service area. That takes in valley lots along Wolftever Creek and ridge ground on White Oak Mountain. Our flyer puts the goal in one line: transforming overgrown properties into usable spaces.

Collegedale's creek valley and ridge ground

Collegedale sits in the valley of Wolftever Creek. Just west of the city center, the creek cuts through White Oak Mountain and forms Collegedale Gap. State Route 317, known here as Apison Pike, runs through the city center and the gap. The Wolftever Creek Greenway also spans the city.

Collegedale started in 1916 as the site of Southern Junior College, now Southern Adventist University. The city grew 27 percent between 2000 and 2010, the fastest of any town in Hamilton County. The city puts its population at about 11,476 as of July 1, 2023. It also sits right next to the Enterprise South industrial site.

The Chattanooga airport weather station averages about 55 inches of rain a year. Red clay holds that water near the surface, and summers grow brush fast. Kudzu can grow more than a foot a day. Privet forms dense thickets that shade out native shrubs along fence rows and lot edges.

Clearing overgrown lots in Collegedale

On a lot gone to thicket, forestry mulching is where we start. Brush and small trees in the open parts of the lot get ground up by the drum. On a slope coming off White Oak Mountain, the leftover chips shield bare soil until grass returns. Fence line clearing works the same way and opens a grown-up row back to the wire.

Collegedale's codes enforcement lists high grass and weeds among its common violations, along with overgrown lots. Bush hogging with our rotary brush cutter knocks that growth back to open ground. Where vines have buried a corner, kudzu removal is mechanical work. We cut it to the ground, and repeat cuts over the seasons wear it down.

City brush pickup is capped at one pickup truck load (4x8x4) a month. It takes no stumps or roots mixed with dirt. Bigger loads go out on our dump trailer as brush pile hauling. Stump grinding drops leftover stumps below grade, and French drains carry water off a soggy low corner.

How we cover Collegedale and the towns next door

Our service area also takes in Ooltewah next door, plus Apison and McDonald. Our mini skid steer fits through a standard fence gate. A fenced backyard can be cleared with the fence left standing.

Every estimate is free, and we give it in person at the lot. We look at the growth with you and talk through what stays. You get the price before the work starts.

Collegedale FAQ

Questions From Collegedale Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Collegedale. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (423) 260-5675

Will the city haul off the brush from clearing my lot?
Not from a clearing job. Collegedale's brush service is for tree trimmings, not tree cutting or removal. Residents have to make private arrangements for major tree cutting and lot clearing debris. Even trimmings can be no larger than 9 inches in diameter or longer than 8 feet. Forestry mulching leaves most of the growth on the ground as chips, and our dump trailer takes the rest.
The city tagged my lot for high grass. What happens next?
The first step is usually a courtesy notice tag. It is not a fine, and it carries a compliance date. If the lot is still grown up after that date, a Notice of Violation may come by certified mail. The case can then go to an Administrative Hearing Officer, who can fine up to $500 per violation. Call or text with the tag in hand to book a free estimate.
Will you remove a tree that leans toward my house?
No. A tree that leans toward a house or any structure is close-quarters work, and we do not take that on. Our tree work stays in the open parts of a property, with small and mid-size trees and overgrown shrubs. For the leaning tree, call an arborist with rigging gear.
What does forestry mulching or land clearing cost in Collegedale?
Most of the price comes down to acreage and how dense the brush stands. Slope matters too, so ridge ground near Collegedale Gap runs slower than a flat valley lot. Thick trunks slow the mulcher more than light brush. We price every job on site, and the estimate is free.
Which ZIP codes do you cover around Collegedale?
All four that serve the city. Collegedale's own 37315 post office handles post office boxes only. Mail and packages come through Apison 37302, McDonald 37353 and Ooltewah 37363. So a home inside the city can carry an Ooltewah or Apison address. Even the City of Collegedale lists an Ooltewah mailing address. We cover the whole area either way.
